PradoRey’s history dates back to 1503 when the Earl of Ribadeo sold the Real Sitio de Ventosilla estate to Queen Isabella I of Castile. The estate belonged to the Crown until the 19th century when it became the property of the Duke of Caldas who sublet it. After 1921, it became privately owned and became a model for the running of both agriculture and livestock. As a winery, PradoRey was the first to receive the award for Most Socially Responsible Company in Burgos.
The 520 hectares of vineyard are the largest wine producing area in the Ribera del Duero D.O., with several grape varietals: 90% Tempranillo, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot. The estate is divided into 7 different vineyard sites of various sizes, from 25 to 110 hectares, located in the following terroirs: Hoyo Dornajo, La Mina, Prado del Rey, El Pino, Los Robles, Valdelayegua and Salgüero.
