Since its founding in 1870, Familia Torres has combined tradition and innovation with the aim of making premium wine and brandy, always with the utmost respect for the environment. Familia Torres’s roots in Penedès, near Barcelona, go back more than three centuries – the earliest winegrowing references date back to 1678 –, it has historically had wineries and vineyards in Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Priorat and Costers del Segre.
Familia Torres also has its own vineyards and wineries in leading Spanish wine regions – Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, and Rías Baixas – as well as in Chile and California. Torres is a member of Primum Familiae Vini, an association of 12 wine families who are among the most prestigious wine producers of Europe.
Specifically in Ribera del Duero, the winemaker is Juan Ramón García, he oversees the winery Pago del Cielo practically since its beginnings, we can say he is the soul of the winery. Born in Salamanca, he has a degree in Chemical Sciences and Oenology from the University of Valladolid, acquired professional experience in Bordeaux and Toro wineries. He made his first harvest in 2001 and in 2005 he joined Familia Torres as manager of the Ribera del Duero winery and later of the Rueda winery. Pago del Cielo combines tradition and commitment to the quality of the Torres Family with the work, passion and technical knowledge of Juan Ramón García and his team to develop the Celeste wines.
