THREE GENERATIONS OF WINEMAKERS TO CREATE A WIDE RANGE OF WINES
Since the foundation of the winery in 1935, this wine project has teamwork as a base, a special bond between winegrowers, who take care of the grapes, and winemakers, who make those fruits to express their best features in the form of wine. Currently, Cuatro Rayas Winery has a Department of Oenology, in which two winemaker lovers stand out. They represent two generations and are the best example of professional collaboration, but above all, they love quality wines. Under the baton of Ángel Calleja –the first generation and for forty years the bulwark of Cuatro Rayas’ wine and Designation of Origin Rueda– there are Elena M. Oyagüe, technical manager who has dedicated two decades of her work to the winery, and Roberto L. Tello, who with only five years of work has already shown that new generations are starting strongly.
Calleja, master of masters, passed all his knowledge and secrets to the two younger winemakers who were called upon to receive the baton and take up the challenge of winemaking in one of the wineries with the most tradition in the D.O. Rueda. Each of them contributes with their view and work, focusing on making Cuatro Rayas’ wines to continue to bring joy to national and international consumers who are becoming even more demanding. These three generations work together to contribute with different points of view in a wide range of wines: Verdejo white wine, Tempranillo and Sauvignon red wines; young wines, aged on lees, oak barrel aged, solera and barrel fermented wines or low alcohol content frizzante wines. To produce this wide range of wines, all women and men who are part of the Cuatro Rayas Winery family are essential. Eighty percent of the wine produced in the winery is made with Verdejo variety.
