Sipping Through the Snow: Riding Out the Storm With Red Wine

Winter Storm Jonas' projected impact.

Winter Storm Jonas’ projected impact.

As Winter Storm Jonas bears down upon the East Coast, thousands will rush to stock up on the essentials: milk, water, flashlights, salt, shovels and of course wine, beer and booze.

Drizly, an alcohol delivery service available in many major cities across the country says the local forecast has a direct impact on business. They saw a 55 percent increase in sales in the Washington DC area alone, with three times as many scheduled deliveries as normal.

Beer distributors like Bob Hall in Maryland are working overtime to meet expected demand. Mike Hudson, operations manager for Bob Hall tells Fox 5 News that “snowstorms like this that come in on a Friday and over the weekend are probably the best situation for us because people are home, they are safe, they are not driving anywhere, they are not working. And what are they doing to do? Eat, drink and be merry.”

With a weekend filled with snowbound wine lovers ahead,  we combed user-generated wine review site Vivino (9 million worldwide users) to see who had the jumpstart on pairing Ribera del Duero with their chilly winter days.
